Animas Forks is an old ghost town that is in better shape than most old mining ruins around Colorado. There have been efforts to repair buildings and keep them from falling over. After we came down Cinnamon Pass from Lake City, we arrived in Animas Forks, this is a neat place to spend some time and look around!  As you can see in the picture below, Animas Forks lies at the base of both Engineer Pass, and Cinnamon Pass, both passes go to Lake City, and makeup the Alpine Loop.

As you walk around the old town, there are signs that explain the history of the buildings, it really takes you back to what life was like back in the old gold mining days.

After spending some time walking around checking things out, we loaded up and headed up California Gulch
